"Draw the Adventure" (Rita Äventyret) is a groundbreaking 10-episode interactive animation series and AI experiment created for SVT Play. It is a project where traditional storytelling meets fast-paced improvisational filmmaking, made possible through artificial intelligence and the boundless imagination of children.

The Premise: An Interactive Quest

The series follows three heroes, Hans Pepperoni Karlsson, Blommis, and Eldmannen, on an epic quest to save Fantasilandet (The Imagination Land) from a dark threat. But they can’t succeed alone.

Children across Sweden used the SVT Duo app to submit their own drawings and ideas. These creations were then brought to life using AI, making the young audience active participants in starring in and shaping the narrative week by week.

The Process: Filmmaking as Improvisation

The series was in essence a creative improvisation. With over 15,000 drawings submitted during the broadcast weeks, the production demanded a radically fast, agile pipeline:

  • Storytelling on the Fly: Each week began by mining thousands of user submissions for both visuals and functional ideas to weave into the series' overarching story arc.
  • Lightning-Fast Turnarounds: The team had just 3 to 4 days to go from the very first AI-generated image to a locked edit.
  • The Final Polish: One final day was dedicated to sound design, color grading, voice acting, and occasional motion capture, bringing everything from heroes to talking pizzas to life.

The Philosophy: Reckless Abandon

The sheer speed of Draw the Adventure made traditional perfectionism impossible, requiring a process of constant letting go. It was an exercise in approaching creativity with reckless abandon, leaning into the magic of collaboration between the creators, the AI tools, SVT's Calle Gisselsson, and the unpredictable ideas of the audience.

Ultimately, Draw the Adventure stands as a pioneering experiment for Swedish media, proving that new technologies can beautifully merge with audience participation to create a truly living, breathing story.
